About Us
![]() Youth CREATE is a community youth theatre, offering weekly workshops for children and young people between the ages of 4 to 25 years. These sessions are led by a team of experienced, professional workers. Youth CREATE operates an “open door” policy, making every effort to accommodate ALL young people who wish to participate, and it is this range of ability, as well as the variety of its programme, which makes us unique. Termly subscriptions are kept to a minimum, and a bursary fund is available to help low income families. Youth CREATE aims to provide a creative and significant focus for local young people in a supportive, caring environment. Youth CREATE exists to enable all children to develop their full potential creatively and socially, through all aspects of creative and performing arts, including drama, music, dance, arts and crafts. HISTORY Youth CREATE, now a registered charity, was conceived and established in 1987 by Carol Russell, who was Artisic Director until her retirement in August 2006, as an outlet for the creative energies of local young people. Since then it has grown rapidly, but still pursues its original aim: to offer personal and social development through the medium of creative and performing arts. THE MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE Youth CREATE is a registered charity. It has a Board of Trustees to set overall strategy, on which Youth CREATE members and the local community are represented, and a Management Committee to run the company on a day to day basis. FINANCE Youth CREATE is funded partly by members’ subscriptions. As these represent only one third of the total cost, we are reliant on continual applications for funding to local councils, companies, the Youth Service and national organisations such as the National Lottery Charities Board and Children in Need. VOLUNTEERS Our young people take part in a wide range of voluntary activities, including fund-raising, organising social functions, involvement in local community activities, etc. We also rely upon adult volunteer help for production support and fund-raising. |
