SCHOOL WORKSHOPS!

SCHOOL WORKSHOPS IN HERTS & ESSEX
Youth CREATE have various health and issue based workshops that they can run in your school.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS
At present we are in the process of working on a Bug Busting Day funded by BAA that will involve as many primary schools as possible. The idea is to teach the children about headlice so they won't want them in their hair and will ask their parents to check and treat them if necessary!
The workshops involve film - starring primary aged members of Youth CREATE, animation, live action with songs, costumes and audience participation.
Each school will receive an information pack, count down calendar to Bug Busting Day and combs for the pupils.

These workshops will be followed by ones tackling social and health & hygiene issues including thread worm.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS
At present we are in the process of working on an anti-smoking campaign.
The workshops will be tackling the issue of anti-smoking (including cannabis) but from a slightly different angle by looking at the treatment available for cancer - the side effects of treatment and how they affect a person both emotionally, physically and socially. The whole workshop will be based around choices. We will be working closely with Stacey Johnson a local 18 year old with a brain tumour and founder of the charity Kisses4Kids. She will be filmed giving her account of what it's like living with cancer and how she wishes that she could have somehow lowered the chances of getting cancer by for example not eating chocolate! She can't understand why anybody would risk getting cancer by smoking.
The senior members of Youth CREATE are involved with developing the campaign to ensure that we can tackle the issue on a level that secondary school pupils can assosciate with. We are hoping to make the pupils laugh and cry but also get involved with the anti-smoking campaign by either making a Wallace & Grommit style animation film, writing a short drama sketch/advert, a song, rap, poem or designing a poster. Above all we don't want them to be peer pressured into smoking. Everybody has a choice.

These workshops will follow with others tackling; alcohol, STIs, stress and peer pressure/bullying.
